As Israel braced for Iran’s retaliatory attacks on Friday, Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s emergency service, worked quickly to evacuate premature infants and other patients who required critical care to protected areas.
MDA carried out the evacuations with three buses for intensive care patients, complete with medical equipment.
These buses were first used to evacuate patients during Operation Northern Arrows in 2024 and can accommodate seven patients lying down and 10 sitting.
The transfer of patients occurred as Israel’s Home Front Command announced a shutdown in the country, including the cancellation of events and closing public transport routes, restaurants and gathering places.
In addition, hospitals discharged recovering patients to make room for those with injuries from Iranian missiles.

Additionally, 35,000 MDA staff were on high alert to respond to any emergency needs that might arise during the attacks.
“Magen David Adom is fully prepared to provide rapid and advanced medical response in emergency scenarios,” remarked Yossi Halabi, director of MDA’s immediate response division. “MDA teams operate with specialized tools to ensure the highest protection of patients’ lives.”
MDA leverages advanced technologies to detect and assist individuals in distress, working in close coordination with all security and emergency services—including the IDF, Israel Police, Home Front Command, and others.
MDA’s EMTs and paramedics provide medical guidance over the phone until emergency teams arrive at the scene.
