“Ran can’t put on tefillin today. We are continuing his streak for him.”

By Shmuli Volkin, Jewish Breaking News

Two weeks before Simchat Torah two years ago, Ran Gvili sent a message to his friend Roee that sends chills down the spine today.

“Roee, you’ll be proud of me,” Ran wrote on September 22, 2023. “I’ve been putting on tefillin (phylacteries] for two weeks straight. It gives me such joy to wake up every morning and do this.”

Ran kept that streak alive every single day… until he couldn’t anymore.

Right now, the prime minister and president are arriving at his funeral to pay their official respects. But on the sidelines, something even more powerful is happening.

Rabbi Shneur Kurts of Chabad Meitar, a close friend of the Gvili family, is standing with Ran’s friends. They are rolling up their sleeves and wrapping tefillin—dozens of them—amid the grief.

As Kurts told JBN moments ago: “Ran can’t put on tefillin today. We are continuing his streak for him.”

They aren’t just mourning a hero; they are picking up exactly where he left off.

Let’s help them. If you have tefillin, put them on for Ran today. If you don’t, do a mitzvah in his name. Let’s make sure his streak never ends.
