In an emotional and defiant moment broadcast live on the BBC, Israeli wheelchair tennis star Guy Sasson claimed the 2025 Wimbledon Quad Wheelchair Doubles Championship—and used his victory speech to send a powerful message of national pride and solidarity with Israel.
Sasson and his Dutch partner Niels Vink dominated the final, defeating South Africa’s Donald Ramphadi and Britain’s Gregory Slade 6-0, 6-2.
After the match, Sasson addressed the crowd and quoted a verse from the Torah:
“The people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift themself like as a young lion. Am Yisrael Chai.”

Sasson, who was severely injured in 2015 and left paralyzed from the knees down, has become one of the most inspiring athletes in the sport.
