US-Iran Flare-Up Erupts Near Strait of Hormuz

The military escalation came as President Donald Trump warned that negotiations with Tehran remained unresolved.

Tensions between the United States and Iran escalated sharply overnight after American forces intercepted multiple Iranian drones near the Strait of Hormuz and later struck a launch coordination site inside Iran, according to U.S. officials.

Two U.S. officials told Fox News that American forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones that were considered a threat to vessels operating in the strategic waterway. The officials said U.S. forces also targeted an Iranian ground control station in Bandar Abbas that was preparing to launch a fifth drone.

Hours later, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had launched an attack targeting an American air base that Tehran claimed had been used to coordinate the U.S. operation.

At about the same time, the Kuwaiti military said early Thursday that its air defense systems were responding to hostile missile and drone attacks. Kuwaiti authorities did not specify whether the incident was directly connected to the reported Iranian retaliation.

The military escalation came as President Donald Trump warned that negotiations with Tehran remained unresolved and suggested military action could resume if talks fail.

Speaking during a Cabinet meeting Wednesday, Trump dismissed reports suggesting a breakthrough in negotiations and insisted Iran would not receive sanctions relief even if it surrendered its enriched uranium stockpile.

Trump said the United States had not yet reached the point at which it was satisfied with the negotiations, adding that Washington would either secure a deal or “finish the job.”

The latest confrontation renewed concerns about a broader regional conflict centered on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
