US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee on Thursday slammed calls in Arabic media to commit arson attacks against Israelis.
“Israelis live every day with constant threats from uncivilized savages like Hamas seeking to murder civilians and destroying even the trees,” he wrote on X.
“No respect for life whether people or trees as Hamas, Arab news outlet calls to set fires.”
He attached a Jerusalem Post article detailing many instances of incitement to arson in Arabic media.
Hamas, for example, posted a message on Wednesday to Telegram urging Arabs to “burn whatever you can of groves, forests, and settler homes.”
“Youth of the West Bank, youth of Jerusalem, and those inside Israel, set their cars ablaze… Gaza awaits the revenge of the free,” the group wrote.
In another Wednesday Telegram post, the Jenin News Network channel called on Arabs to “burn the groves near the settlements.”
“O, youth of the West Bank, let us be the flame of freedom which will not die. Let us make their night – a burning day,” another video said. “Let us bring back to them the nightmares of the occupation, so they know that every day is a struggle for the resistance. Set fires of freedom everywhere. We will not give in and will not give up until we burn every piece of stolen land.”
Palestinian Arab news channel “Akhbar Filastin” wrote on X, “A call to the revolutionary youth and all the heroes of the West Bank.. Settlers’ homes and the surrounding areas are your target. Burn them with your Molotov cocktails and set fire to the grass near the settlement outposts.”
Telegram channel Jenin News wrote, “Calls from youth to burn forests close to the raped (lands)… The (Zionist) entity is Burning! This is an opportunity for you, to increase the fires, youth of Jerusalem and the occupied interior, raise your spirits and make up your mind, their settlements, set them ablaze.”
Israeli police reportedly arrested or detained three suspects in connection with fires that broke out on Wednesday near Jerusalem, amid soaring temperatures and fierce winds, and led to the cancellation of many Independence Day events.
The suspects, who were not identified or described in initial reports in the Israeli media, were arrested within several hours of the fires, which forced evacuations, road closures and the quashing of Israel’s state Independence Day torch-lighting ceremony.
According to widespread Hebrew media reports, the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) joined in the investigation into the fires, suggesting authorities believe the fires were the result of terrorist arson attacks.
