Sephora has ended its collaboration with Iraqi-American beauty entrepreneur Huda Kattan following the circulation of antisemitic content she shared with her 1.7 million TikTok followers.
Kattan, founder of the global cosmetics brand “Huda Beauty,” posted a video in July promoting a conspiracy theory that blamed Jews and Israel for some of the world’s most devastating events over the past century.
In the video, she claimed, “All the conspiracy theories that come out have a lot of evidence behind them — that Israel was behind World War I, World War II, 9/11, October 7 — they allowed all of these things to happen.”
“Like, I had a feeling — I was like, ‘Are they behind every world war?’ Yes,” she added.
Notably, both World War I and World War II occurred before the founding of the State of Israel in 1948.
The remarks quickly went viral and drew sharp criticism for spreading baseless accusations steeped in antisemitism.
Sephora, which had previously stocked and promoted Huda Beauty products, responded by severing ties. The French cosmetics giant confirmed its decision, citing the seriousness of the video and the need to distance itself from rhetoric that promotes hate.
Kattan, a highly influential figure in the beauty industry, built her brand into one of the most recognizable names in cosmetics.
Jewish advocacy groups and pro-Israel organizations welcomed Sephora’s move.
When Kattan’s TikTok posts went viral, Jewish advocacy groups, including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and StopAntisemitism, challenged Sephora and asked if the world-famous beauty line wanted to promote a brand that stood for antisemitic conspiracy theories.
“Huda Kattan built a brand around beauty, but these antisemitic conspiracy theories are nothing short of ugly hate,” said ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt. “Spreading vile myths about Jews to millions of followers isn’t just reckless — it’s dangerous.”
In mid-August,Sephora issued a statement saying that “promoting hate, harassment, or misinformation does not align with our values or code of conduct” and confirmed it was “actively reviewing this issue internally.”
