Israeli President Isaac Herzog extended birthday greetings to President Donald Trump on Sunday, praising his leadership and highlighting his support for Israel, as the United States marked Flag Day and planned to host the Freedom 250 event at the White House.

In a public message, Herzog congratulated Trump on his 80th birthday and thanked him for his role in confronting Iran and supporting Israel.

“Happy 80th birthday, President Donald J. Trump!

“Your remarkable journey to the White House represents the breadth of the American dream and the power of your own resolve.

“The people of Israel are grateful for your leadership in confronting Iran’s empire of evil and for your steadfast commitment to the security of Israel. We will never forget your tireless efforts in securing the release of our beloved hostages. May you lead the Middle East and the world toward peace and security and continue to strengthen the unique U.S.-Israel partnership.

“In Jewish tradition, it is stated that at the age of eighty you gain unique prowess. May you enjoy your beautiful family and many happy birthdays with blessings and joy. Mazal tov!”

Trump’s birthday coincided with Flag Day and the beginning of National Flag Week.

According to a presidential proclamation issued by the White House, June 14 was designated as Flag Day, while the following week was designated as National Flag Week. The proclamation described the American flag as a symbol of liberty, democracy and national unity.

The president directed government officials to display the US flag on federal buildings during the observance. Americans were also encouraged to fly the flag at their homes and businesses and recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

The proclamation commemorates the adoption of the first official Flag Resolution by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.

The observances also coincided with Freedom 250, a mixed martial arts event produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship and scheduled to take place Sunday on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C.

The event’s title references the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence and forms part of the June 14 commemorations taking place at the White House.
