A kosher restaurant in central Paris was vandalized overnight with acid for the third time, rendering its plates, cutlery, and glassware unusable and prompting a criminal investigation, the Paris public prosecutor’s office told The Jerusalem Post on Monday.
Employees arriving early Friday at Kokoriko discovered corrosive liquid had been sprayed across tables, walls, and the floor during the night. White residue covered surfaces where the substance had eaten into materials, and all crockery, cutlery and glasses were damaged beyond use. Staff immediately contacted emergency services.
The Paris Fire Brigade responded and deployed its nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical unit. Specialists from the Central Laboratory of the Police Prefecture examined the liquid to determine its composition and assess risks, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Prosecutors said an investigation has been opened into damage to another person’s property caused by a means dangerous to people, committed on grounds of race, ethnicity, nationality or religion.
The offense carries a potential penalty of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros. The case has been assigned to the police station of Paris’ 17th arrondissement.
Authorities said the restaurant has been targeted twice before. Acid was previously thrown on its facade on two occasions, most recently on October 9, 2025. That investigation was later closed after police failed to identify suspects.
Following the latest attack, the restaurant will remain closed until a company specializing in the removal of corrosive substances completes a full cleaning and safety assessment. The business did not respond to a request for comment from The Jerusalem Post.
The incident marks another act of damage involving hazardous materials at a Jewish establishment in the French capital, investigators said, and comes as police examine whether the repeated attacks are connected. No injuries were reported.
The prosecutor’s office said investigators are reviewing forensic findings from the scene and prior cases as part of the inquiry.
