New York City Mayor Eric Adams departed Saturday, November 15, for a multi-day visit to Israel, his office announced Friday. The trip comes as the Adams administration prepares to hand over City Hall to Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani in the coming weeks.

According to the mayor’s office, Adams will meet with Israeli government officials, economic development leaders, and members of the technology sector. He will also visit religious sites and discuss ongoing efforts to combat antisemitism both in New York City and globally.

The visit follows a meeting in September between Adams and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Netanyahu’s speech at the UN General Assembly.

Adams emphasized the importance of steadfast support for Israel, stating, “At a time when much of the world is turning its back on the Jewish State of Israel, the mayor of the largest Jewish community outside of Israel must remain steadfast in our support for Israel, its right to defend itself, eliminate Hamas, and bring every single one of their hostages home.”

Earlier this year, in June, Adams signed a landmark executive order adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of antisemitism.

Speaking at Tribeca Synagogue, he declared, “Antisemitism is a vile disease that’s been spreading across our nation and our city. What’s worse, since Hamas’ terror attacks on October 7, 2023, we have seen this hateful rhetoric become normalized on our campuses, in our communities, and online, as antisemitic propaganda far too often masquerades as ‘activism.’” He called on the City Council to codify the definition into law and to target antisemitism wherever it exists.

The Adams administration is counting down the final weeks in office as Mayor-elect Mamdani prepares to take the oath and assume leadership of the nation’s largest city.
