Adams also dismissed speculation about his departure from public life, insisting he is “not going anywhere” and will continue to be present and engaged even as Zohran Mamdani is set to assume the office in 17 days.

Mayor Eric Adams made a dramatic entrance at what many viewed as his final Chanukah celebration with the Jewish community, a gathering widely considered a farewell event. Instead of remaining behind barriers, Adams moved directly into the crowd, choosing to deliver his remarks from among attendees rather than above them.

“I wanted to come down among you,” Adams said. “All of these ropes keep us away from each other.”

During his remarks, Adams forcefully rejected false narratives surrounding antisemitism, stating that Jews were persecuted long before the modern State of Israel existed, simply for being Jewish.

He urged those in attendance to embody the spirit of the Maccabees, declaring himself a Maccabee as well.

Adams also dismissed speculation about his departure from public life, insisting he is “not going anywhere” and will continue to be present and engaged even as Zohran Mamdani is set to assume the office in 17 days.
