With tensions escalating and fears of sudden conflict mounting, several major European airlines have suspended or scaled back flights to parts of the Middle East.
Air France and KLM confirmed they have paused operations to and over multiple countries in the region, citing a deteriorating security environment tied to rising tensions between the United States and Iran.
Air France canceled flights between Paris and Dubai on Friday and Saturday, temporarily suspending service to the emirate. KLM, the group’s Dutch carrier, has taken broader measures, halting flights to Tel Aviv, Dubai, and several Saudi destinations, including Riyadh and Dammam — until further notice.
KLM has also adjusted its flight paths to avoid large sections of Middle East airspace, including over Iran, Iraq, Israel, and parts of the Gulf, as airlines reassess risk in real time.
Lufthansa has tightened operations as well, suspending overflights of Iranian and Iraqi airspace and limiting service to Tel Aviv and Amman.
The disruptions come as the United States continues to reinforce its military posture across the Middle East, with additional naval and air assets moving into the region in recent days.
Reports point to a growing concentration of U.S. warships, including vessels equipped with Tomahawk missile systems, alongside the carrier strike group built around the USS Abraham Lincoln. Increased fighter activity and additional air defense deployments have also been reported.
