Argentine sportscaster Hernán Feller delivered an emotional on-air address as more hostages were released from Gaza.
Two years earlier, his aunt, Ofelia Roitman, was freed from Hamas captivity.
Speaking during a live broadcast of a soccer match between River Plate and Sarmiento, Feller expressed both joy and resolve, recalling the promise he made when his aunt came home.
“I dreamed of this day for so long, you can’t imagine,” Feller said. “On November 28, 2023, when my aunt Ofelia came back from captivity, I vowed to keep fighting until all the hostages came home. And here I am—20 hostages who survived the hell of Gaza. This nightmare is over.”
The Jewish-Argentine commentator used his platform to both celebrate the releases and condemn those he accused of ignoring or misrepresenting Israel’s suffering during the war.
“We will not forget or forgive those who stayed silent and looked away,” he said. “We will not forget or forgive those who spoke of genocide and starvation, nor the antisemites hiding behind a false cause. We will not forget or forgive the collaborators. Know this: we are an unbreakable people. History has proven it.”
He ended his speech with a single Hebrew word: Home.
Since the start of the war, Feller has used his sports platform to campaign for the release of hostages in Gaza, maintaining his activism even after his aunt’s return.
His efforts gained national attention in both Israel and Argentina. Israeli Culture and Sports Minister Miri Regev later invited him to light a torch at Israel’s Independence Day ceremony—an honor he respectfully declined, saying he could not celebrate while any hostages remained in captivity.
Feller’s words on Sunday night resonated across Argentine and Israeli media, reflecting the emotional toll of the conflict on Jewish communities worldwide.
