Israel may soon shift how it handles its rapidly growing piles of construction debris, as a new technology developed by the Luzon Group’s Rom division moves from experimentation to commercial review.

The system, called Morphit, converts unsorted building waste into ready-made blocks, panels and partitions—offering a potential response to both illegal dumping and soaring landfill costs.

The company said its process accepts mixed materials such as broken concrete, plaster remnants and discarded drywall without requiring separation.

The waste is crushed, combined with binders and water, and formed into new components containing up to 80% recycled material.

Laboratory testing found that the products meet strength standards comparable to those of conventional building supplies.

One benefit, according to the developers, is that certain panels do not need aluminum framing and can be dismantled and reused.

Rom’s CEO, Ariel Abram, told Ynet the idea emerged from frustration over the constant debris surrounding construction sites in major cities. “That image is burned into my mind as something that makes no sense. It does not fit our era.”

He added that the company was motivated by “the massive quantities of waste that, ironically, we also pay millions of shekels every year to bury.”

The initial development phase was conducted with Practical Innovation and the Plastics and Rubber Center.

The partnership followed a disciplined method that brought together experts from multiple specialties to examine the concept.

Israel generated 7.5 million tons of construction waste in 2024, according to Environmental Protection Ministry figures, though experts cited by Shakuf say as much as half may be dumped illegally instead of reaching recycling sites. While some facilities already produce mixtures for use as fill material, recycled finished products remain limited.

Morphit’s next stage includes regulatory approvals and potential manufacturing partnerships in Israel and abroad.
