Israel’s National Planning Administration announced Sunday that it has approved the construction permit for a new HBS structure at Ben-Gurion Airport, a key component of the eastern expansion of Terminal 3.
The project, estimated at one billion shekels, is designed to meet the steady rise in passenger traffic and enhance the airport’s operational capabilities.
The new building will include advanced baggage-handling systems, operational offices, passenger check-in counters and dedicated unloading areas. According to planners, the expanded facility will significantly improve efficiency at Terminal 3 and bring the airport in line with international standards. The structure will also serve as the foundation for a future hotel, slated to be built on the eastern rooftop level to serve travelers directly from the terminal.
Construction is expected to take about 30 months from the start date and will be carried out within the operating terminal in full coordination with the Israel Airports Authority to ensure uninterrupted service.
The development strengthens Ben-Gurion Airport’s readiness for growing demand and helps ensure the continued smooth functioning of Israel’s primary international gateway.
Ron Rekach, Director of National Licensing at the Planning Administration, said, “Advancing the permit for the HBS structure is an important step in strengthening Ben-Gurion’s operational capabilities and preparing for increased passenger traffic. It is also an excellent example of dual-use planning, with a hotel to be built above the structure to serve the terminal. We will continue to enable the rapid advancement of national projects essential to the economy.”
