Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the United States is publicly discussing negotiations while secretly preparing for a ground invasion of Iran, according to statements published Sunday in Iranian media.
“They talk about negotiations publicly, but secretly they are planning a ground attack,” Ghalibaf wrote in a message marking 30 days since the start of the war. He claimed Iranian forces are prepared for such a scenario and said missile launches against Israel would continue.
Ghalibaf described the conflict as a “great world war” and said Iran would not end the war without victory. “We must prepare ourselves for a long, difficult and complex road to reach the summit,” he wrote. “With the support of our people, we will reclaim our rights, punish the United States and make it regret its actions so that it will not dare attack Iran again. We will not leave this war except in victory.”
His comments come amid reports that the United States has drafted plans for a possible ground campaign in Iran. According to American officials cited in a Washington Post report, the plans under consideration do not involve a full-scale invasion, but rather limited operations such as Special Operations raids and conventional infantry missions.
Officials said preparations for potential ground operations have been underway for weeks in order to give US leadership a range of military options as the war enters a more dangerous phase. Among the scenarios reportedly being discussed are operations targeting coastal military sites near the Strait of Hormuz and the possible seizure of Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export hub in the Persian Gulf.
The statements come as the United States and Israel continue close military coordination as part of the campaign against Iran. Both governments have made clear that the objective is not only to respond to attacks, but to significantly weaken Iran’s military capabilities and remove the long-term threat posed by the Iranian regime and its regional proxies.
