IDF Thwarts Another Drone Weapons Smuggling Attempt

These repeated incidents highlight the continuous and evolving threat posed by weapons-smuggling drones.

Earlier Monday, IDF observation units, in coordination with the aerial control division, detected a drone attempting to cross from the west into Israeli territory carrying three M16 rifles.

Paran Brigade forces intercepted and neutralized the drone, and the weapons were transferred to security authorities for further handling.

The incident follows a similar attempt last week near the eastern border.

Yoav Brigade troops, guided by IDF observation teams, stopped a drone carrying 10 pistols, confiscating the weapons and preventing them from reaching terrorist operatives.

These repeated incidents highlight the continuous and evolving threat posed by weapons-smuggling drones.

In response to the growing challenge, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir convened a dedicated session on Wednesday with the head of operations, the deputy chief of staff, the Southern Command commander, and representatives from Shin Bet and the Israel Police.

The meeting focused on developing a comprehensive operational approach to counter drone threats along the western border.

Zamir stressed that drones present not only a criminal risk but also a serious security threat with potential lethal consequences.

He emphasized the IDF and security forces’ commitment to building new operational capabilities and ensuring full coordination between the IDF, police, and Shin Bet through a permanent mechanism for joint action.
