The IDF said its forces were fired upon in a blatant ceasefire violation and responded by striking Hamas targets across Gaza.

IDF forces came under fire Wednesday as Hamas terrorists opened sniper fire on Israeli troops near Khan Younis from beyond the Israeli-controlled side of the yellow line. No soldiers were injured in the attack.
Earlier in the day, in the northern Gaza Strip, a Hamas terrorist crossed the yellow line, posing an immediate threat to IDF forces. Immediately after identification, the forces fired and neutralized the terrorist to eliminate the threat. Several additional terrorists who crossed with him fled back into the area.
In response, the IDF struck Hamas military targets in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood and the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, hitting the Hamas deputy brigade commander, the Zeitoun battalion commander, and the head of the group’s naval unit. Palestinian sources reported at least eight Hamas terrorists were killed in the strikes, while medical officials in Gaza claimed at least 28 fatalities overall.
The IDF said, “Our forces were fired upon in a blatant violation of the ceasefire. In response, the IDF, led by the Southern Command, guided by the Shin Bet, and using the Air Force, began striking Hamas terrorist targets across the Gaza Strip.”
Hamas condemned the Israeli strikes and called on the U.S. to “fulfill its commitments” under the ceasefire. Yet these actions follow repeated violations by Hamas, including sniper attacks, attempted crossings of the yellow line, and the continued holding of the bodies of three hostages, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the conditions of the ceasefire.
The IDF emphasized its ongoing commitment to Israel’s security, vowing decisive action against any threat. As the army stated, “We will continue to operate with full force to eliminate any threat to the State of Israel.”
