The IDF carried out a major overnight counterterrorism sweep in the Shechem (Nablus) area, as Samaria Brigade troops moved into several villages deep inside the city to arrest wanted terrorists and seize weapons.
During the operation, forces in one of the neighborhoods came under live fire. A reservist was moderately wounded in the exchange and evacuated to a hospital. His family has been notified.
The raids, conducted by the Samaria Brigade, focused on locating weapons, disrupting terror cells and weakening the infrastructure that fuels attacks on Israeli civilians and soldiers. The activity is part of a sustained effort to restore stability in a region that has long served as a hub for armed groups.
The Shechem sector has seen heightened IDF pressure over the past week. Earlier, special forces from Duvdevan and the elite Yahalom engineering unit carried out an intensive overnight mission in the village of Urif, a few miles south of Shechem. The operation targeted terrorist infrastructure and illegal weapon-production lines used by Palestinian terror groups active in the area.
During that raid, troops discovered two clandestine workshops that were being used to manufacture firearms and explosive devices. Soldiers also seized a hunting rifle and materials intended for producing improvised weapons, preventing them from reaching terror cells planning future attacks.
Israel continues to emphasize that it will not allow terrorist groups to entrench themselves or build the means to harm its citizens. The IDF will continue acting with determination to protect Israeli lives and dismantle every threat at its source.
