IDF Kills Hamas Intelligence Chief Linked to October 7 Massacre

The IDF said Shambari played an active role in planning Hamas’ October 7 massacre.

IDF and Shin Bet forces carried out a strike in northern Gaza on Tuesday, killing Iyad Ahmed Abd al-Rahman Shambari, head of operations in Hamas’ military intelligence division, the military said.

According to the IDF, Shambari was responsible for coordinating operational intelligence across the Gaza Strip, including gathering information on Israeli forces and directing attacks against IDF troops.

The military described him as a central figure who posed an immediate threat to forces operating in the area.

The IDF also said Shambari played an active role in planning Hamas’ October 7 massacre.

The strike comes amid continued Israeli operations in northern Gaza. Earlier this week, the IDF said troops from the Northern Brigade, operating under the 252nd Division alongside the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit, have been carrying out a targeted campaign to dismantle Hamas’ underground infrastructure, particularly in the Beit Hanoun area.

As part of the effort, forces have destroyed approximately 14 kilometers of underground tunnel routes in recent months. The tunnels contained living quarters and significant quantities of weapons, according to the military, as troops continue clearing the area.

The IDF also reported that approximately 70 terrorists have been killed in recent months after being identified as immediate threats and violations of the ceasefire.

The military said forces under Southern Command remain deployed in the area and will continue operations to eliminate threats and degrade Hamas’ capabilities.
