Sources within Hamas told the Saudi outlet Asharq Al-Awsat on Monday that the group is engaged in what they described as increasingly serious internal discussions and contacts with regional mediators, alongside indirect exchanges with Israel.
They said Hamas is awaiting confirmation from mediators on when indirect negotiations might resume, predicting this could happen late this month or early next month if the United States and Israel reach the necessary understandings.
According to the report, Hamas is signaling willingness to consider a far-reaching arrangement that includes a 10-year ceasefire, a freeze on the use of weapons and the immediate transfer of civilian administration in Gaza to a technocratic body.
In return, the group seeks the lifting of the blockade and firm assurances that Israel will not return to war.
The newspaper said Hamas leaders held several rounds of talks with mediators in Doha, Cairo and Istanbul, with additional meetings already planned. The sources attributed the current momentum to strong American pressure and sustained regional mediation.
They also reported growing convergence between Hamas, other Palestinian factions and Arab mediators over the possibility of transferring weapons to a Palestinian authority under strict conditions that would prevent them from reaching Israel or the United States, while ensuring a defined political process regarding the Palestinian issue. Hamas has reportedly floated a long-term ceasefire of at least a decade paired with a formal commitment to halt the use of weapons under agreed guarantees.
Preparations are underway for an internal Palestinian meeting focused on governance arrangements for Gaza, administrative responsibility for the Strip and the future of armed groups. Senior officials from Fatah are expected to attend the planned gathering in Cairo.
The discussions have also touched on ideas for an international stabilization force, including potential deployment and mandate. Hamas has reportedly indicated readiness to transfer administration of Gaza immediately to a technocratic committee within such a framework.
