Hadassah Ranked Israel’s Top Hospital for Research, Places in Global Top 200 in Nature Index

For 2024–2025, Hadassah recorded the strongest research performance among Israeli hospitals across diverse medical specialties.

Hadassah Medical Organization has been identified as Israel’s leading hospital for research productivity and placed among the top 200 hospitals worldwide in the latest Nature Index evaluation.

The index reviews original studies appearing in 145 leading journals in the natural and health sciences, chosen by an independent group of researchers.

Its methodology emphasizes academic impact, measuring factors such as how often research is published, cited and accessed online rather than evaluating patient care or teaching performance.

For 2024–2025, Hadassah recorded the strongest research performance among Israeli hospitals across diverse medical specialties, including patient-centered clinical sciences, oncology and carcinogenesis, microbiology, genetics, cardiovascular medicine and hematology.

The head of the institution’s Research and Development Division, Eyal Mishani, Ph.D., said the placement is based on measurable academic standards. “Nature ranked the hospitals based on impact factors such as what they’ve published, the number of times an article was cited and how many online visits each received — all academic parameters that facilitate an assessment of a hospital’s scientific work,” he told Ynet.

Having led Hadassah’s research efforts for more than 20 years, Mishani said the result stems from a focus on emerging, high-priority medical fields. He said teams concentrate on “the ‘hottest’ areas of research in every sphere of medicine you can think of.”

Yoram Weiss, M.D., chief executive of Hadassah Medical Organization, emphasized the importance of sustained institutional and philanthropic backing. “Without the support of Hadassah and forward-thinking philanthropists who understand the importance of the work we’re doing, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve what we have or to establish research centers that are changing the face of medicine,” Weiss said.

Nature Index is widely regarded as a benchmark for measuring scientific influence through publication output and citation reach. Hadassah’s placement among the world’s top hospitals for research highlights its growing contribution to international biomedical science.
