Itongadol\/AJN.- Las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas han visto una precipitosa ca\u00edda del n\u00famero de jud\u00edos que vive en Europa, seg\u00fan una encuesta publicada ayer por el Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n Pew. El reporte estima que en 1960 hab\u00eda 3.2 millones de jud\u00edos europeos, n\u00famero que cay\u00f3 a 2 millones en 1991 y a 1.4 millones en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, seg\u00fan el medio israel\u00ed Ynet.<\/p>\n

La emigraci\u00f3n fue particularmente extensiva en Europa del Este y la ex Uni\u00f3n Sovi\u00e9tica. Un aproximado de 3.4 millones viv\u00eda en la URSS en 1939. Luego de la catastr\u00f3fica baja de poblaci\u00f3n tras el Holocausto, el n\u00famero se redujo a 2 millones. Pero la inmigraci\u00f3n desde entonces ha dejado a 310.000 habitantes jud\u00edos. En los pa\u00edses de Europa del Este, la fuerte comunidad jud\u00eda de 4.7 millones se redujo a menos de 100.000.<\/p>\n

El informe destac\u00f3 que mientras la mayor parte del declive puede ser atribuido a la emigraci\u00f3n a Israel, el casamiento interreligioso y la asimilaci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n podr\u00edan ser factores.<\/p>\n

Mientras tanto, esta baja pareci\u00f3 ser menos severa en algunos pa\u00edses de Europa occidental, cuya poblaci\u00f3n jud\u00eda de 1939 era relativamente m\u00e1s baja. Aproximadamente el mismo n\u00famero de jud\u00edos vive en Francia hoy en d\u00eda que en esa \u00e9poca, mientras que la cantidad de jud\u00edos del Reino Unido ha bajado de 345.000 a 280.000.<\/p>\n

Sin embargo, el reporte destac\u00f3 recientes aumentos de emigraci\u00f3n desde Francia, as\u00ed tambi\u00e9n como un nivel r\u00e9cord de antisemitismo en Gran Breta\u00f1a.<\/p>\n

Seg\u00fan \u00e9ste el 10% de los jud\u00edos del mundo viven hoy en Europa, a diferencia de 1945 que lo hac\u00eda el 35% y 1939 con el 57%.<\/p>\n
