En el sello, que fue descubierto en las excavaciones de la Autoridad de Antig\u00fcedades de Israel realizadas cerca del Muro Occidental y la Ciudad de David, aparece una figura alada y un nombre hebreo inscrito en escritura paleohebrea. El sello, \u201cuno de los m\u00e1s hermosos jamdescubiertos\u201d, era utilizado para firmar documentos por un alto funcionario de la administraci\u00f3n del Reino de Iehud\u00e1.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Un sello de piedra, extremadamente raro e inusual, de la \u00e9poca del primer Gran Templo, de unos 2.700 a\u00f1os de antig\u00fcedad, con un nombre inscrito en escritura paleohebrea y una figura alada, fue descubierto cerca de la muralla sur del Monte del Templo, en el Jard\u00edn Arqueol\u00f3gico Davidson, durante las excavaciones llevadas a cabo por la Autoridad de Antig\u00fcedades de Israel y la organizaci\u00f3n de la Ciudad de David.<\/p>\n

Seg\u00fan el Dr. Yuval Baruch y Navot Rom, los directores de la excavaci\u00f3n en nombre de la Autoridad de Antig\u00fcedades de Israel, \u201cel sello, elaborado de piedra negra, es uno de los m\u00e1s hermosos jam\u00e1s descubiertos en excavaciones en la Antigua Jerusal\u00e9n y est\u00e1 elaborado al m\u00e1s alto nivel art\u00edstico\u201d<\/p>\n

El objeto-que fue grabado con escritura de espejo, le serv\u00eda a su due\u00f1o tanto de amuleto como para firmar legalmente documentos y certificados. Exhibe un corte convexo en ambos lados, y un orificio taladrado a lo largo, de modo que se pueda colgar de una cadena y colocarlo en el cuello. En el centro asoma una figura de perfil, posiblemente un rey, con alas; vestido con una larga camisas a rayas y caminando hacia la derecha. La figura tiene una melena de largos rizos que le cubre la nuca, y en su cabeza, tiene un sombrero, o una corona. La figura levanta un brazo hacia adelante, con la palma abierta; tal vez, como para sugerir alg\u00fan objeto que sostiene. A ambos lados de la figura aparece grabada una inscripci\u00f3n en escritura paleohebrea: \u201cLeYehoezer ben Hoshayahu\u201d<\/p>\n

Seg\u00fan el Dr. Filip Vukosavovic, arque\u00f3logo y asiri\u00f3logo de la Autoridad de Antig\u00fcedades de Israel, quien estudi\u00f3 el sello, \u201cse trata de un descubrimiento sumamente raro e inusual. Esta es la primera vez que se halla un \u201cgenio\u201d alado, una figura m\u00e1gica protectora, que ha sido encontrada en la arqueolog\u00eda israel\u00ed y regional. Las figuras de demonios alados son conocidos en el arte Neoasirio de los siglos IX-VII antes de la era com\u00fan, y eran consideradas una especie de demonio protector\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Los investigadores creen que el objeto, en el que originalmente solamente aparec\u00eda la imagen del demonio, se llevaba como amuleto alrededor del cuello de un hombre llamado Hoshayahu, quien ten\u00eda un puesto jer\u00e1rquico en la administraci\u00f3n del Reino de Judea. En virtud de su autoridad y estatus, este Hoshayahu se permit\u00eda ennoblecerse y exhibir un sello con una figura imponente grabada en \u00e9l, que encarnaba un s\u00edmbolo de autoridad. \u201cParece que el objeto fue elaborado por un artesano local, un juda\u00edta que produjo el amuleto a pedido del due\u00f1o. El mismo, fue preparado a un nivel art\u00edstico muy elevado\u201d, afirma el Dr. Vukosavovic.<\/p>\n

La hip\u00f3tesis es que despu\u00e9s del fallecimiento de Hoshayahu, su hijo Yehoezer hered\u00f3 el sello, y entonces, agreg\u00f3 su nombre y el de su padre, en cada lado del demonio. Esto lo hizo, tal vez, a fin de apropiarse directamente de las cualidades beneficiosas que cre\u00eda que el talisman encarnaba como un objeto m\u00e1gico.<\/p>\n

El nombre Yehoezer nos resulta familiar de la Biblia (Cr\u00f3nicas I, 12:7) en su forma abreviada-Yoezer, uno de los combatientes del rey David.<\/p>\n

Tambi\u00e9n, en el libro de Irmiahu (43:2), que describe los hechos de este mismo per\u00edodo, es mencionada una persona con un nombre paralelo, \u201cAzaria ben Hoshaya\u201d. Las dos partes de su nombre est\u00e1n escritas en orden inverso al nombre del due\u00f1o del sello, y su segundo nombre es el mismo, apareciendo en su forma abreviada. Esta forma de escritura en el texto se ajusta al nombre en el sello recientemente descubierto y de ese modo, es apropiado para esta \u00e9poca.<\/p>\n

Seg\u00fan el profesor Ronny Reich, de la Universidad de Haifa, un colaborador de la investigaci\u00f3n, se\u00f1ala que \u201cla comparaci\u00f3n de la forma de las letras y la escritura con las de otros sellos hebreos y bullae (impresiones de sellos de arcilla) de Jerusal\u00e9n demuestra que, en contraste con el cuidadoso grabado del demonio, la inscripci\u00f3n de los nombres en el sello fue realizada de manera descuidada. No resulta imposible que tal vez fuero el mismo Yehoezer el que grab\u00f3 los nombres en el objeto\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cEsta es una evidencia adicional de las capacidades de lectura y escritura que exist\u00edan en este per\u00edodo\u201d, dice el Dr. Yuval Baruch, director de la excavaci\u00f3n y subdirector de Arqueolog\u00eda en la Autoridad de Antig\u00fcedades de Israel. \u201ccontrariamente a lo que se suele considerar, parece que la alfabetizaci\u00f3n en este per\u00edodo no era solamente cuesti\u00f3n de la \u00e9lite de la sociedad. La gente sabia leer y escribir, al menos, a un nivel b\u00e1sico, para las necesidades del comercio. Sabemos acerca de muchas impresiones de sellos escritos, en escritura paleohebrea, procedentes de los alrededores de la Ciudad de David y el Reino de Judea\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cLa figura de un hombre alado en un marcado estilo neoasirio es singular y sumamente raro en los estilos gl\u00edficos de finales de la \u00e9poca del primer Gran Templo. La influencia del Imperio Asirio, que hab\u00eda conquistado toda la regi\u00f3n, es aqu\u00ed claramente evidente\u201d, agrega el Dr. Baruch.<\/p>\n

\u201cJudea en general y Jerusal\u00e9n en particular en esa \u00e9poca, estaban sujetas a la hegemon\u00eda del Imperio Asirio y recib\u00edan su influencia, una realidad que tambi\u00e9n se reflejaba en los aspectos culturales y art\u00edsticos. El hecho que el due\u00f1o del sello eligiera un demonio para ser la insignia de su sello personal, puede dar cuenta de su sentimiento de pertenencia a un contexto cultural m\u00e1s amplio, tal como ocurre hoy en Israel, donde la gente se considera que forma parte de la cultura occidental. No obstante, dentro de ese sentimiento, este Yehoezer tambi\u00e9n se aferraba firmemente a su identidad local, y por ello, su nombre es escrito en la escritura hebrea,y su nombre es un nombre hebreo, que pertenece a la cultura de Judea. En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, las evidencias arqueol\u00f3gicas son cada vez mayores, especialmente en las excavaciones de la ciudad de David y en la base del Monte del Templo, e instructivas en referencia al alcance de la influencia cultural asiria en nuestra region, y en particular, en Jerusal\u00e9n\u201d.<\/p>\n
