Investigadores de la Universidad Hebrea de Jerusalem, en colaboraci\u00f3n con la Start Up israel\u00ed, Tyrnovo han logrado importantes avances en el\u00a0tratamiento de enfermedades cerebrales<\/b>\u00a0como el Alzheimer, el Parkinson y la enfermedad de Huntington.<\/p>\n

\u00abLos investigadores encontraron que un compuesto \u00fanico, llamado NT219, inhibe selectivamente el proceso de envejecimiento con el fin de proteger al cerebro de enfermedades neurodegenerativas, sin afectar la vida \u00fatil\u00bb, seg\u00fan el portal web de la Universidad.\u00a0\u00abEste es un primer e importante paso hacia el desarrollo de futuros f\u00e1rmacos para el tratamiento de diversas enfermedades neurodegenerativas\u00bb.<\/p>\n

El descubrimiento inicial fue hecho por el Dr. Ehud Cohen del Departamento de Bioqu\u00edmica y Biolog\u00eda Molecular del Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n M\u00e9dica Israel-Canad\u00e1 de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad.\u00a0Este hallazgo \u00abse produjo cuando se descubri\u00f3, durante el trabajo con gusanos, que la reducci\u00f3n de la actividad del mecanismo de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n transmitida a trav\u00e9s de la insulina y la hormona de crecimiento IGF-1, una importante v\u00eda de envejecimiento de regulaci\u00f3n, constitu\u00eda una defensa contra la agregaci\u00f3n\u00bb de la prote\u00edna que est\u00e1 ligado mec\u00e1nicamente con la enfermedad de Alzheimer.<\/p>\n

\u00abM\u00e1s tarde, se encontr\u00f3 que la inhibici\u00f3n de esta v\u00eda de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n protegi\u00f3 a los ratones del Alzheimer en modelos de alteraciones del comportamiento y de los fen\u00f3menos patol\u00f3gicos t\u00edpicos de la enfermedad.\u00a0En estos estudios, la ruta de acceso se reduce a trav\u00e9s de la manipulaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica, un m\u00e9todo que no es aplicable en seres humanos\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Cohen, junto con el director general de Tyrnovo, Dr. Hadas Reuveni, el Prof. Alexander Levitzki del Departamento de Qu\u00edmica Biol\u00f3gica de la Universidad Hebrea y su equipo de investigaci\u00f3n \u00abdemostraron que NT219 inhibe la se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n de IGF-1 en gusanos y las c\u00e9lulas humanas.\u00a0La inhibici\u00f3n de esta v\u00eda de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n NT219 se asocia con el desarrollo de la enfermedad de Huntington o la enfermedad de Alzheimer\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Los m\u00e9dicos \u00abhan presentado una solicitud de patente que protege el uso de NT219 como tratamiento para enfermedades neurodegenerativas a trav\u00e9s de Yissum, la compa\u00f1\u00eda de transferencia de tecnolog\u00eda de la Universidad Hebrea\u00bb.\u00a0 El Dr.\u00a0Gil Pogozelich, presidente de Goldman Hirsh Partners Ltd., que posee la participaci\u00f3n mayoritaria en Tyrnovo, dice que ve una gran importancia en la cooperaci\u00f3n en este proyecto con la Universidad, y que Tyrnovo representa un buen ejemplo de c\u00f3mo las iniciativas cient\u00edficas y de investigaci\u00f3n pueden ayudar al cuidado de la salud\u00bb.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

El Laboratorio de Cohen \u00abobtuvo una aprobaci\u00f3n \u00e9tica para poner a prueba la eficacia terap\u00e9utica del NT219 como tratamiento en ratones, con la esperanza de desarrollar un tratamiento futuro de enfermedades neurodegenerativas hasta ahora incurables\u00bb.<\/p>\n

\u00abEn este punto, se ve como un paso prometedor en una direcci\u00f3n totalmente nueva, en la que la investigaci\u00f3n se ha hecho en el campo durante menos de una d\u00e9cada\u00bb, dijo Cohen.<\/p>\n
