El Ministerio de Protecci\u00f3n Ambiental planea comenzar a presionar a los ciudadanos para que los desechos org\u00e1nicos se separen de otra basura y se reciclen.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Se redactaron nuevas reglas y se emitieron la semana pasada para recibir comentarios del p\u00fablico antes de su promulgaci\u00f3n. Este es un paso que se produce luego de a\u00f1os de esfuerzos de gran medida fallidos por parte del ministerio para alentar a los hogares y las empresas a dividir los restos org\u00e1nicos.<\/p>\n

Si bien el reciclaje de botellas y vidrio es com\u00fan en todo Israel, solo un peque\u00f1o n\u00famero de consejos actualmente recolecta desechos org\u00e1nicos por separado de otros tipos de basura. Los restos de comida y la poda del jard\u00edn representan alrededor del 40% de toda la basura municipal en Israel.<\/p>\n

Alrededor de un tercio de estos residuos se separan luego de la recolecci\u00f3n, se transforman en abono y se usan para la recuperaci\u00f3n de tierras. El proceso de compostaje puede dejar desechos org\u00e1nicos que contienen restos de basuras no org\u00e1nicas.<\/p>\n

Antes del entierro, los org\u00e1nicos no divididos ensucian otros tipos de basura haci\u00e9ndolos no aptos para el reciclaje. Cuando se descompone bajo tierra, la basura org\u00e1nica genera olores nocivos y exuda l\u00edquidos que contaminan el suelo y aguas subterr\u00e1neas.<\/p>\n

Pero los desechos org\u00e1nicos en la fuente pueden reciclarse en compost de alta calidad para la agricultura, horticultura y la recuperaci\u00f3n de tierras. Las nuevas normas desalientan el entierro de materia org\u00e1nica generando m\u00e1s costos. Tambi\u00e9n fomentan la separaci\u00f3n antes de la recolecci\u00f3n al brindar incentivos econ\u00f3micos a las autoridades locales.<\/p>\n
