El coordinador nacional de lucha contra el coronavirus, Dr. Salman Zarka, expres\u00f3 en la Comisi\u00f3n de Salud de la Kn\u00e9set (Parlamento) su preocupaci\u00f3n por el actual aumento de contagios de coronavirus y explic\u00f3 que los funcionarios de la cartera sanitaria est\u00e1n considerando reimponer el uso de mascarillas.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

BA.5 es una subvariante de la variante Omicron, que se cree que surgi\u00f3 originalmente en Sud\u00e1frica, donde fue identificada por primera vez a principios de mayo pasado.<\/p>\n

Zarka estim\u00f3 que hay alrededor de entre 15 mil y 20 mil nuevos casos diarios de COVID-19 en Israel y que actualmente la subvariante BA.5 es responsable de aproximadamente la mitad de todos los nuevos casos.<\/p>\n

\u201cLas estad\u00edsticas de contagios son, al parecer, la punta del iceberg\u201d, advirti\u00f3 Zarka. \u201cEstimo que hay entre 15.000 y 20.000 personas infectadas cada d\u00eda\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cLa variante BA.5 ha tomado el lugar de Omicron y ser\u00e1 la variante dominante\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cLa nueva variante BA.5 da cuenta ahora de cerca del 50% de los contagios. Esta variante conduce a casos relativamente leves entre los j\u00f3venes, pero estamos viendo un aumento en las hospitalizaciones. Zarka puntualiz\u00f3 que la vacuna de Pfizer\/BioNTech utilizada en Israel es menos efectiva para prevenir contagios con la nueva variante; pero afirm\u00f3 que la vacuna ayuda a reducir el riesgo de enfermedades graves.<\/p>\n

El anuncio de Zarka marca un cambio de rumbo por parte del Ministerio de Salud, que hace menos de un mes elimin\u00f3 la obligatoriedad del uso de mascarillas en los vuelos.<\/p>\n

Si el gobierno vuelve a imponer el mandato de uso de mascarillas en interiores, ser\u00e1 la segunda vez durante la pandemia que el requisito se elimina y luego se restaura.<\/p>\n

En junio de 2021, el Ministerio de Salud puso fin al mandato de mascarillas para interiores, solo para volver a imponerlo m\u00e1s tarde ese mismo mes.<\/p>\n
