El 26 de marzo de 1979, el entonces primer ministro Menajem Begin y el entonces presidente egipcio Anwar el-Sadat firmaron el tratado de paz entre Israel y Egipto en lo que fue el primero de su tipo entre Israel y uno de sus vecinos \u00e1rabes, public\u00f3 The Jerusalem Post.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

El tratado de paz entre Israel y Egipto fue el primero entre Israel y las naciones \u00e1rabes circundantes.<\/p>\n

Las tres d\u00e9cadas posteriores a la declaraci\u00f3n de independencia de Israel fueron hostiles entre Israel y Egipto, pero en 1975, Sadat viaj\u00f3 a Jerusal\u00e9n y se reuni\u00f3 con Begin para discutir la paz, la diplomacia y los lazos comerciales. Durante el viaje, Sadat se dirigi\u00f3 a la Kn\u00e9set. Sadat y Begin recibieron el Premio Nobel de la Paz de 1979 por sus esfuerzos para lograr la paz entre las dos naciones. Sin embargo, aunque los esfuerzos fueron aplaudidos en otros lugares, las naciones \u00e1rabes no quedaron impresionadas y Egipto fue expulsado de la Liga \u00c1rabe, y dos a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s de la firma del tratado, Sadat fue asesinado en El Cairo.<\/p>\n

A pesar del asesinato, prevaleci\u00f3 la paz entre Israel y Egipto, y 15 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, se firm\u00f3 otro tratado entre Israel y Jordania.<\/p>\n
