La ciudad de Nueva York nombrar\u00e1 una intersecci\u00f3n de Manhattan en honor a Shimon Peres, el ex Presidente de Israel fallecido en el 2016.. Una web del \u00e1rea de Nueva York, Patch, inform\u00f3 que la intersecci\u00f3n de West 95th Street y Riverside Drive en el Upper West Side se llamar\u00e1 \u00abShimon Peres Place\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n

Seg\u00fan Patch, fue uno de los 199 cambios de nombre de calles aprobados por el Ayuntamiento de Nueva York el martes. La\u00a0Jewish Telegraphic Agency se\u00f1al\u00f3 que en 1949, Peres viv\u00eda en un apartamento en esa misma intersecci\u00f3n con su esposa Sonia y su hija mientras estudiaba en la Universidad de Nueva York.<\/span><\/p>\n

A\u00fan no se ha programado una fecha de inauguraci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n

Peres, cuyo nombre original era Szymon Perski, naci\u00f3 en 1923 en un \u00e1rea de Polonia que ahora forma parte de Bielorrusia. La familia Perski se mud\u00f3 a Tierra Santa en 1932, entonces bajo el Mandato Brit\u00e1nico. Peres particip\u00f3 activamente en el sionismo laborista y se convirti\u00f3 en el protegido de <\/span>David Ben-Gurion<\/span><\/a> , comenzando una carrera pol\u00edtica que lleg\u00f3 a durar cerca de 70 a\u00f1os.<\/span><\/p>\n

Peres jug\u00f3 un papel decisivo en la adquisici\u00f3n de armas francesas y la construcci\u00f3n del reactor nuclear de Dimona.<\/span><\/p>\n

En las elecciones de 1984, el partido de Peres gan\u00f3 m\u00e1s esca\u00f1os que cualquier otro partido, pero se vio obligado a aceptar un gobierno de unidad rotatoria con el Likud, que estaba dirigido por Yitzhak Shamir. El cargo de primer ministro de Peres estuvo marcado por un ataque a\u00e9reo israel\u00ed contra la sede de la OLP en T\u00fanez y el arresto por parte del FBI del analista de inteligencia <\/span>Jonathan Pollard<\/span><\/a> por pasar documentos clasificados a Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n
