Chakwera, un evangelista, de 65 a\u00f1os, que cuenta con un doctorado en teolog\u00eda, y asumi\u00f3 el 6 de julio pasado la presidencia del pa\u00eds del Sur de \u00c1frica anunci\u00f3 una serie de reformas concernientes al Ministerio de Exteriores y su red de embajadas.<\/p>\n

\u201cLas reformas incluir\u00e1n la revisi\u00f3n de nuestra presencia diplom\u00e1tica, incluyendo nuestra decisi\u00f3n de establecer nuevas misiones diplom\u00e1ticas en Lagos, Nigeria, y en Jerusal\u00e9n, Israel.\u201d, declar\u00f3.<\/p>\n

Chakwera visit\u00f3 Israel el a\u00f1o pasado y es considerado como un entusiasta amigo del Estado jud\u00edo.<\/p>\n

El anuncio tiene lugar un d\u00eda despu\u00e9s de que el primer ministro, Benjam\u00edn Netanyahu, informara que Kosovo se convertir\u00e1 en el primer pa\u00eds de mayor\u00eda musulmana en abrir una embajada en Jerusal\u00e9n.<\/p>\n

\u201cEl c\u00edrculo de paz y reconocimiento de Israel est\u00e1 expandi\u00e9ndose y se espera que se sumen pa\u00edses adicionales\u201d, asever\u00f3 Netanyahu.<\/p>\n

La declaraci\u00f3n tuvo lugar poco despu\u00e9s de que el presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, revelara un hist\u00f3rico acuerdo econ\u00f3mico entre Kosovo y Serbia. El pacto incluye el traslado de la embajada de Serbia a Jerusal\u00e9n y el reconocimiento israel\u00ed de Kosovo.<\/p>\n

Trump telefone\u00f3 a Netanyahu durante su reuni\u00f3n en la Casa Banca con el primer ministro kosovar, Avdullah Hoti, para felicitar a ambos l\u00edderes por el establecimiento de relaciones diplom\u00e1ticas, apunt\u00f3 la Oficina del Primer Ministro.<\/p>\n

Pero hasta ahora, Israel se hab\u00eda negado a reconocer a Kosovo porque no quer\u00eda apoyar una declaraci\u00f3n unilateral de independencia estatal, que Jerusal\u00e9n teme que podr\u00eda crear un peligroso precedente y ser seguido por los palestinos.<\/p>\n

Yigal Palmor, que se desempe\u00f1aba como portavoz del Ministerio de Exteriores de Jerusal\u00e9n, cuando Kosovo declar\u00f3 su independencia, explic\u00f3 que Israel no quer\u00eda apoyar una acci\u00f3n separatista promovida por una minor\u00eda \u00e9tnica.<\/p>\n

De hecho, los palestinos tomaron nota de la decisi\u00f3n de Pristina, en aquel momento, y prometieron que la reproducir\u00edan el modelo kosovar.<\/p>\n

Cinco pa\u00edses europeos se han opuesto a reconocer la independencia de Kosovo por motivos similares, entre ellos Espa\u00f1a (que teme el separatismo vasco y catal\u00e1n), Rumania y Eslovaquia (que tienen importantes minor\u00edas h\u00fangaras dentro de su territorio) y Grecia y Chipre (solidarias con Serbia debido a cuestiones de solidaridad y afinidad cristiano-ortodoxa).<\/p>\n

Israel ha tratado de mantenerse alejado de la crisis de los Balcanes, aunque ha sido considerado m\u00e1s cercano a Serbia, a pesar de que Belgrado vot\u00f3 en 2012 en favor del reconocimiento de la Autoridad Palestina como Estado en la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas.<\/p>\n<\/a>
