Pero indudablemente, el Sult\u00e1n Qabus bin Said de Om\u00e1n, fallecido este viernes 10 de enero, era uno de los s\u00edmbolos principales del cambio paulatino que se ha estado dando en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os. Y cuando figuras israel\u00edes, especialmente el Primer Ministro Netanyahu, hablan sobre el acercamiento con pa\u00edses \u00e1rabes moderados del Golfo P\u00e9rsico, el primer nombre que viene a la mente es el de este l\u00edder singular, el Sult\u00e1n Qabus, fallecido a los 79 a\u00f1os de edad, tras casi 50 a\u00f1os en el poder.<\/p>\n<p>Ya en 1994 recibi\u00f3 al entonces Primer Ministro Itzjak Rabin, quien habl\u00f3 luego de la valent\u00eda de este gobernante \u00e1rabe que abri\u00f3 su pa\u00eds a Occidente, le garantiz\u00f3 estabilidad y lo supo conducir con sabidur\u00eda en las turbulentas aguas de la regi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>La mejor prueba de ello es la gran variedad de firmantes de comunicados de duelo por su muerte: desde Israel a Ir\u00e1n, pasando por la Uni\u00f3n Europea, la Autoridad Palestina, Irak, L\u00edbano, Kuwait, Egipto, Jordania, Gran Breta\u00f1a y muchos m\u00e1s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnv\u00edo mis condolencias al pueblo de Om\u00e1n y participo de su profundo pesar por la partida del Sult\u00e1n Qabus bin-Said\u201d, declar\u00f3 Netanyahu apenas termin\u00f3 en Israel el shabat. \u201cHace aproximadamente un a\u00f1o \u00e9l nos invit\u00f3 a mi esposa y a m\u00ed a una visita importante y sumamente emocionante, durante la que ofreci\u00f3 su ayuda para promover la paz y la estabilidad en la regi\u00f3n\u201d, record\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu calific\u00f3 al fallecido Sult\u00e1n de \u201cgran l\u00edder\u201d, afirmando que \u201cbajo su liderazgo, Om\u00e1n se convirti\u00f3 en un pa\u00eds central y avanzado\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>El jefe del partido opositor Kajol Lavan, Beni Gantz, se manifest\u00f3 en t\u00e9rminos similares, asegurando en un comunicado especial que \u201cMedio Oriente ha perdido a un l\u00edder que realiz\u00f3 una contribuci\u00f3n significativa a la estabilidad de la regi\u00f3n\u201d.\u00a0 Gantz agreg\u00f3 que \u201cSu Majestad el Sultan Qabus bin Said al-Said, fue de los primeros en comprender que las relaciones con Israel sirven al inter\u00e9s de todos los pa\u00edses de Oriente Medio\u201d. Tambi\u00e9n \u00e9l ofreci\u00f3 sus \u201cm\u00e1s sinceras condolencias al pueblo de Om\u00e1n\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tanto Netanyahu como Gantz, candidato a Primer Ministro,auguraron \u00e9xito al \u00a0nuevo Sult\u00e1n Haitham bin Tariq al-Said, primo del fallecido Qabus. \u00c9ste fue elegido por el Consejo Supremo de la familia Al-Said para sucederlo, y el propio Qabus dej\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n una carta en este sentido. Qabus no ten\u00eda descendencia. Netanyahu destac\u00f3 en especial que el sucesor ya dijo que \u201cla pol\u00edtica exterior de Om\u00e1n y su actividad en pro de la paz en la zona, continuar\u00e1n\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n la Canciller\u00eda israel\u00ed public\u00f3 un comunicado llamando al Sult\u00e1n Qabus de \u201cl\u00edder y amigo\u201d, elogiado como \u201chombre valiente de paz y reconciliaci\u00f3n\u201d. \u201cAcompa\u00f1amos al pueblo de Om\u00e1n en su dolor\u201d, dec\u00eda el comunicado del Ministerio de Exteriores de Israel.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oEY3pISouJg\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nEl Profesor Uzi Rabi, experto en temas de Medio Oriente, director del Centro Dayan para la investigaci\u00f3n de Oriente Medio y \u00c1frica en la Universidad de Tel Aviv, declar\u00f3 en una entrevista a la radio p\u00fablica israel\u00ed que en efecto, el Sult\u00e1n Qabus logr\u00f3 ubicar a su pa\u00eds en una situaci\u00f3n singular como mediador en conflictos, siempre buscando la estabilidad, tanto entre Ir\u00e1n y occidente como en las distintas ri\u00f1as internas en el Golfo P\u00e9rsico, una zona de grandes tensiones, cerca tanto de Ir\u00e1n como del problem\u00e1tico Yemen.<\/p>\n<p>Qabus tom\u00f3 el poder de su padre en 1970, iniciando de inmediato un cambio de fondo que moderniz\u00f3 a Om\u00e1n. Su padre, sumamente apegado a la tradici\u00f3n, tem\u00eda que toda apertura del pa\u00eds al exterior, provocar\u00eda gran inestabilidad. Qabus, por su parte, comprendi\u00f3 que sin ello, Om\u00e1n quedar\u00eda sumido en el atraso y lidiar\u00eda con numerosos problemas. \u00a0Abri\u00f3 a Om\u00e1n al mundo y logr\u00f3 garantizarle no s\u00f3lo estabilidad y tranquilidad sino tambi\u00e9n desarrollo para su poblaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Claro est\u00e1 que no se trata de una democracia sino de un pa\u00eds gobernado por una dinast\u00eda familiar. Y el propio Qabus era el gobernante \u00e1rabe m\u00e1s longevo en el poder, casi medio siglo al frente.
