En l\u00ednea con la tradici\u00f3n establecida por los ganadores anteriores del Premio, Sharansky ha optado por renunciar al premio, y el Premio G\u00e9nesis donar\u00e1 los fondos en su honor a organizaciones sin fines de lucro.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

La Fundaci\u00f3n del Premio G\u00e9nesis (GPF) anunci\u00f3 el lunes que Natan Sharansky es el Laureado del Premio G\u00e9nesis 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

El premio anual de 1 mill\u00f3n de dolares rinde homenaje a \u00abindividuos extraordinarios que sirven de inspiraci\u00f3n para la pr\u00f3xima generaci\u00f3n de jud\u00edos a trav\u00e9s de sus logros profesionales y por su compromiso con los valores jud\u00edos y con el pueblo jud\u00edo\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n

El prestigioso premio se ha denominado el \u00abPremio Nobel jud\u00edo\u00bb. Sharansky es la primera persona que vive en Israel que recibe el G\u00e9nesis.<\/span><\/p>\n

Al elegir a Sharansky de una lista de 250 nominados, el Comit\u00e9 de Selecci\u00f3n destac\u00f3 \u00absu extraordinaria lucha por las libertades pol\u00edticas y religiosas, enfatizando la relevancia de su trabajo en el mundo de hoy\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sharansky es el primer ciudadano no estadounidense vivo en recibir tanto la Medalla de Oro del Congreso como la Medalla Presidencial de la Libertad. La Madre Teresa, Nelson Mandela y el Papa Juan Pablo II fueron los \u00fanicos otros no estadounidenses que recibieron ambos honores.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sharansky se convierte en el octavo galardonado con el Premio G\u00e9nesis. Entre los galardonados anteriores de Genesis se incluyen el alcalde de la ciudad de Nueva York y el actual candidato presidencial de los Estados Unidos, Michael Bloomberg, la juez de la Corte Suprema de los Estados Unidos, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, y la actriz nacida en Israel, Natalie Portman.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sharansky gan\u00f3 reconocimiento mundial por primera vez en la d\u00e9cada de 1970 como l\u00edder de jud\u00edos que exigieron que la URSS les permitiera emigrar a Israel. Detenido por su desaf\u00edo al r\u00e9gimen sovi\u00e9tico, pas\u00f3 nueve a\u00f1os encarcelado como preso de conciencia, en gran parte en confinamiento solitario, neg\u00e1ndose a rechazar sus demandas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sharansky fue liberado en 1986 e hizo Aliyah a Israel luego de una intensa campa\u00f1a de presi\u00f3n internacional dirigida por jud\u00edos del mundo y encabezada por su esposa Avital.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sharansky declar\u00f3 que estaba \u00absorprendido por este honor\u00bb y agradeci\u00f3 a la Fundaci\u00f3n del Premio G\u00e9nesis por \u00abreconocer mi trabajo para promover la democracia, el estado de derecho y los derechos humanos\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sharansky ser\u00e1 honrado en la Ceremonia del Premio G\u00e9nesis en Jerusal\u00e9n el pr\u00f3ximo mes de junio.<\/span><\/p>\n
