Esta semana comienza la historia de Abraham nuestro patriarca. Dios bendice a Abraham una y otra vez, y le asegura que de \u00e9l surgir\u00e1n, y por \u00e9l ser\u00e1n bendecidos, numerosos pueblos y civilizaciones, y que sus descendientes heredar\u00e1n la preciada tierra de Canaan: Israel.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Pero las cosas no suceden como lo hubi\u00e9ramos esperado. Ir\u00f3nicamente, al poco tiempo de llegar a Israel una tremenda hambruna azota la regi\u00f3n, probablemente por falta de lluvias. El Midrash dice que nunca hubo una hambruna tan grande en la tierra de Israel. Abraham se ve obligado a escapar. No regresa al norte, de donde sali\u00f3 por orden Divina. Abraham se dirigi\u00f3 a Egipto, un pa\u00eds que gracias al caudaloso rio Nilo no se vio afectado por las sequ\u00edas.<\/p>\n

Abraham llega a Egipto como un refugiado que escapa para no morir de hambre. En Egipto es un extranjero que puede ser f\u00e1cilmente abusado. Y aparte tiene un problema muy delicado. A pesar de su avanzada edad su esposa Sara era todav\u00eda una mujer hermosa.<\/p>\n

Abraham conoce la duplicidad de la moralidad egipcia. Para los egipcios el adulterio estaba prohibido. El matrimonio era sagrado. Y ni siquiera el fara\u00f3n podia tomar una mujer casada. En ese sentido la moralidad egipcia era superior a la lamentable moralidad contempor\u00e1nea\u2026 \u00a1Pero no exist\u00eda ning\u00fan problema moral o legal en tomar a una mujer viuda!<\/p>\n

La vida humana en esos tiempos no val\u00eda nada. Recordemos que hasta hace unos pocos siglos atr\u00e1s la causa n\u00famero 1 de muerte no era la enfermedad sino el asesinato. Aparte, para evitar problemas con la ley, hab\u00eda muchas formas de matar sin que se note\u2026. y especialmente a un extranjero.<\/p>\n

Previendo todo esto, y con muy pocas opciones en sus manos, Abraham dise\u00f1a un plan: decir que Sar\u00e1 es en realidad su hermana. De esa manera, Abraham no ser\u00eda asesinado. Y cuando alg\u00fan egipcio pidiese la mano de su \u201chermana\u201d, Abraham negociar\u00eda. \u00bfSu plan? Demandar una dote exhorbitante, un sobreprecio por Sar\u00e1. Esto llevar\u00eda a negociaciones que Abraham tratar\u00eda de hacerlas lo m\u00e1s largas posible. Y mientras las negociaciones con los candidatos potenciales tienen lugar Abraham podr\u00eda vender toda la mercader\u00eda que trajo para vender, comprar animales, comida y semilla y regresar lo antes posible a Israel.<\/p>\n

Pero el plan de Abraham no funcion\u00f3 come \u00e9l lo esperaba. \u00bfPor qu\u00e9? Porque Abraham nunca lleg\u00f3 a sospechar que el mism\u00edsimo Fara\u00f3n iba a estar interesado en Sar\u00e1. La Tor\u00e1 cuenta que cuando los hombres del Fara\u00f3n vieron a Sar\u00e1 decidieron llevarla al harem del monarca egipcio. Y aqu\u00ed no hubieron negociaciones. Los hombres del Fara\u00f3n tomaron a Sar\u00e1 por la fuerza, sin el consentimiento de Abraham y luego inundaron a Abraham de \u201cregalos\u201d, seguramente superando la suma exorbitante que Abraham fing\u00eda demandar.
\nAbraham estaba desesperado. Dios no se comunic\u00f3 con Abraham y \u00e9l no pod\u00eda estar seguro si el plan Divino era que ten\u00eda que regresar a Israel sin Sar\u00e1 y buscar otra mujer con la cual tener hijos y una gran descendencia como Dios le prometi\u00f3 o esperar la intervenci\u00f3n Divina.<\/p>\n

HaShem protegi\u00f3 a Sar\u00e1. Y milagrosamente, toda la corte del Fara\u00f3n y el mismo monarca sufrieron una rara aflicci\u00f3n que el Fara\u00f3n, correctamente , interpret\u00f3 como un castigo Divino. Tras unas cortas investigaciones, dicen los comentarios b\u00edblicos, el verdadero estado civil de Sar\u00e1 fue descubierto . El Fara\u00f3n cit\u00f3 a Abraham, lo recrimin\u00f3 por lo ocurrido, le regres\u00f3 a su esposa y lo expuls\u00f3 de Egipto.<\/p>\n

Sin saberlo y sin entender mucho lo que hab\u00eda ocurrido en el palacio, Abraham sano y salvo e ir\u00f3nicamente \u00abrico\u00bb, regres\u00f3 con su amada esposa Sar\u00e1 a la tierra de Israel, y ya nunca m\u00e1s volvi\u00f3 a pisar Egipto.<\/p>\n

El plan de Abraham me recuerda a un aspecto muy emotivo de la historia de los jud\u00edos de Mashad, Ir\u00e1n. En 1840 los jud\u00edos de esta ciudad fueron convertidos por la fuerza al Islam shiita. Los primeros a\u00f1os fueron los m\u00e1s dif\u00edciles, porque ten\u00edan que fingir que ya no observaban el juda\u00edsmo. Entre otras cosas, los jud\u00edos se vieron forzados a mantener sus negocios abiertos durante Shabbat. Pero en su esfuerzo por minimizar la violaci\u00f3n del Shabbat los due\u00f1os del negocio mandaban a alg\u00fan ni\u00f1o a atender a los clientes. Cuando alguien preguntaba el precio de alguna mercader\u00eda el ni\u00f1o le ped\u00eda una suma exorbitante, que desalentaba al cliente a comprar \u201chasta que alguien competente est\u00e9 al frente del negocio\u201d. Esta situaci\u00f3n de pretender el abandono del juda\u00edsmo sigui\u00f3 por varios a\u00f1os, hasta que las presiones bajaron y los jud\u00edos de Mashad BH pudieron volver a abrazar abiertamente la fe de Abraham Abinu.<\/p>\n<\/a>
