Los rabinos cuentan la historia de un mercader jud\u00edo que viajaba de ciudad en ciudad. Un viernes lleg\u00f3 a una aldea en Babilonia trayendo consigo una gran suma de dinero.<\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n

Fue a la sinagoga por la ma\u00f1ana y despu\u00e9s de las oraciones vio a un hombre que segu\u00eda rezando con sus Tefillin puestos. Sin dudarlo le entrego el dinero a este hombre y le pidi\u00f3 que se ocupara de \u00e9l hasta despu\u00e9s de Shabbat. Cuando Shabbat termin\u00f3, el comerciante fue a la casa de este hombre para recuperar su dinero. Pero para su gran sorpresa, el hombre le dijo que nunca antes lo hab\u00eda visto y nunca recibi\u00f3 dinero de \u00e9l.<\/p>\n

El comerciante fue a la sinagoga y rez\u00f3. En su oraci\u00f3n le dijo a HaShem: \u00abSe\u00f1or del Universo, cuando vi a ese hombre en la sinagoga no confi\u00e9 en ‘\u00e9l’, ya que nunca lo hab\u00eda visto antes. Confi\u00e9 en TU nombre que \u00e9l ‘llevaba’ en su frente [en su Tefillin]. \u00abAl final, la historia tiene un final feliz para el comerciante. En sus sue\u00f1os, Eliyahu haNabi le revel\u00f3 al comerciante una contrase\u00f1a secreta que el ladr\u00f3n y su esposa usaban, lo que le permiti\u00f3 recuperar su dinero.<\/p>\n

Los Sabios trajeron este caso, un ladr\u00f3n que pretendi\u00f3 ser piadoso, como una ilustraci\u00f3n de la violaci\u00f3n del Tercer Mandamiento: \u00abNo cargar\u00e1s el nombre de Dios en vano\u00bb, es decir, falsamente, hip\u00f3critamente, o para avanzar tus intereses materiales. Cuando un jud\u00edo se comporta mal, con no-jud\u00edos o incluso con otros jud\u00edos traicionando el nombre de HaShem que un jud\u00edo ostenta, aparte del crimen cometido, uno ha violado el Tercer Mandamiento que expl\u00edcitamente dice: \u00ab… Dios no perdonar\u00e1 a quien haya cargado Su nombre en vano \u00ab.<\/p>\n

Llevar el nombre de HaShem en vano significa \u201cmal-representar\u00bb Su nombre, en este caso, por ejemplo, para obtener un beneficio material. Esto es lo que los sabios llaman \u00abHilul HaShem\u00bb, profanando el nombre de Dios, que se considera la peor ofensa en el juda\u00edsmo, para la cual NO hay perd\u00f3n posible expiaci\u00f3n en la vida (Maim\u00f3nides, Hilkhot Teshuba 1: 4).<\/p>\n

Cuando nos identificamos como jud\u00edos, nuestro Tefilin, la Kippa, un Magen David o incluso nuestro apellido, estamos \u00abrepresentando\u00bb a Dios. Ya que somos el pueblo de Dios. Nuestra verdadera misi\u00f3n es honrar y elevar Su nombre. Pero tambi\u00e9n podemos \u00abdegradar\u00bb Su nombre. Ser jud\u00edo implica, incre\u00edblemente, que el Nombre de Dios est\u00e1 en nuestras manos.<\/p>\n

Para entender mejor este concepto tan importante, presentar\u00e9 la siguiente ilustraci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Imaginemos que trabajo, digamos para Federal Express. Conduzco un cami\u00f3n de FedEx, uso un uniforme de FedEx y llevo el s\u00edmbolo de FedEx en mi gorra. Trabajar para esta empresa me hace autom\u00e1ticamente (e incluso legalmente) a los ojos de los clientes un agente de FeDex, un representante de FedEx. Si trato a los clientes de FedEx amablemente, no dir\u00e1n que YO los trat\u00e9 bien, dir\u00e1n que FedEx tiene un excelente servicio al cliente. El cr\u00e9dito y los elogios ir\u00e1n principalmente para la compa\u00f1\u00eda, no para al individuo. Por otro lado, si maltrato a los clientes o conduzco mi cami\u00f3n como loco, mi mala conducta afectar\u00e1 el nombre y la reputaci\u00f3n de FedEx. La imagen y el nombre de FedEx van a sufrir un gran da\u00f1o (e incluso una demanda legal) debido a mi mal comportamiento.<\/p>\n

Nosotros, los jud\u00edos, representamos a HaShem. Trabajamos para \u00c9l. Servimos en Su compa\u00f1\u00eda. De manera que directa o indirectamente representamos a Dios. Nuestro comportamiento puede \u05d7\u201c\u05d5 manchar Su nombre o elevar Su nombre.<\/p>\n

Esta es la enorme responsabilidad de ser jud\u00edos: representamos a Dios.<\/p>\n
