Por primera vez en cientos de a\u00f1os, la piedra de m\u00e1rmol sobre la tumba de Jesucristo en la Iglesia del Santo Sepulcro en Jerusalem fue levantada como parte de las renovaciones hist\u00f3ricas que est\u00e1n teniendo lugar en el lugar santo.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Seg\u00fan la fe cristiana, despu\u00e9s de su crucifixi\u00f3n, el cuerpo de Cristo fue colocado en un estante que se coloc\u00f3 dentro de una cueva, ahora cubierta por una estructura llamada el ed\u00edculo \u2013 una peque\u00f1a capilla que tambi\u00e9n se someter\u00e1 a renovaciones junto a la tumba en s\u00ed, que los cristianos creen que est\u00e1 vac\u00eda despu\u00e9s de la resurrecci\u00f3n de Jes\u00fas.<\/p>\n

La renovaci\u00f3n de la estructura comenz\u00f3 hace varios meses despu\u00e9s de que se alcanz\u00f3 un acuerdo hist\u00f3rico entre las iglesias ortodoxas orientales, las cat\u00f3licas y las armenias \u2013 las tres iglesias principales que comparten un acuerdo de statu quo en Jerusal\u00e9n.<\/p>\n

La \u00faltima vez que la estructura fue renovada por los brit\u00e1nicos fue en 1947, cuando se pusieron duros cables de metal para apoyar el ed\u00edculo, pero la piedra de la tumba no fue tocada. Desde entonces, ninguna una renovaci\u00f3n sustancial se llev\u00f3 a cabo sobre la estructura y su condici\u00f3n se ha deteriorado, situaci\u00f3n que se agrav\u00f3 a\u00fan m\u00e1s por la incapacidad de las tres iglesias en ponerse de acuerdo sobre un curso de acci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Hace un a\u00f1o y medio, los funcionarios de antig\u00fcedades advirtieron sobre el estado de la estructura y la polic\u00eda decidi\u00f3 cerrar el sitio a los peregrinos por un n\u00famero de horas, por temor a un da\u00f1o adicional al sitio. El cierre provoc\u00f3 la ira y la protesta, con funcionarios de la iglesia afirmando que la polic\u00eda tom\u00f3 la decisi\u00f3n sin consultar a ellos.
\nA ra\u00edz del incidente, los representantes de las tres iglesias que participan en el funcionamiento del sitio comenzaron a celebrar negociaciones y hace unos seis meses llegaron a un acuerdo. Seg\u00fan el acuerdo, la renovaci\u00f3n estar\u00eda dirigida por la Universidad T\u00e9cnica Nacional de Atenas bajo la supervisi\u00f3n Patriarcado Ortodoxo Griego y la Custodia de Tierra Santa \u2013 una orden de la Iglesia Cat\u00f3lica Romana que es la guardiana del sitio.<\/p>\n

La renovaci\u00f3n es sustancial e incluye el desmantelamiento de los cables met\u00e1licos puestos por los brit\u00e1nicos, y poner grandes barras de metal en el interior de las columnas y la inyecci\u00f3n de materiales similares al cemento dentro de las grietas y hendiduras en las piedras para reforzarlas. Parte de la estructura en s\u00ed tambi\u00e9n se puede desmontar para ser restaurada de forma independiente antes de que se vuelva a colocar en el lugar sagrado.<\/p>\n
