Un terremoto tuvo lugar en el Mar Rojo, sacudiendo edificios en la pen\u00ednsula del Sina\u00ed y alcanzando el extremo sur del Estado jud\u00edo.<\/p>\n

No hubo reportes de heridos o da\u00f1os en Israel, a ra\u00edz del sismo, que se registr\u00f3 a las 4:45 a.m.<\/p>\n

De acuerdo con el Servicio Geol\u00f3gico de Estados Unidos (USGS, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s), el temblor fue de 5.0 en la escala de Richter con epicentro en el Mar Rojo, a 25 kil\u00f3metros al noreste de Dahab, Egipto, y 100 kil\u00f3metros al suroeste de Eilat, en Israel.<\/p>\n

El mes pasado, un peque\u00f1o movimiento tel\u00farico sacudi\u00f3 partes del sur del pa\u00eds, en tanto que residentes de la ciudad de Arad y la zona del Mar Muerto reportaron haber sentido peque\u00f1os temblores.<\/p>\n

Tan peque\u00f1o fue el temblor, que el Instituto Geof\u00edsico de Israel indic\u00f3 que ni siquiera pudo ser medido en la escala de Richter.<\/p>\n

Sus efectos al parecer pudieron ser sentidos en Jerusal\u00e9n, a unos 37 kil\u00f3metros de la localidad de Ein Gedi, en el Mar Muerto.<\/p>\n

Antes de ese incidente, el sismo anterior en Israel se produjo en julio de 2015, cuando un temblor de 4.4 en la escala de Richter se registr\u00f3 en todo el pa\u00eds. Tambi\u00e9n, tuvo su epicentro en la zona del Mar Muerto.<\/p>\n

Israel est\u00e1 situado junto a la falla sirio-africana, un desgarro en la corteza terrestre que corre a lo largo de la frontera que separa a Israel de Jordania, y forma parte del Gran Valle del Rift, que se extiende desde el norte de Siria a Mozambique.<\/p>\n

Los expertos han advertido que un gran terremoto podr\u00eda desatarse en Israel en un futuro pr\u00f3ximo, y el Gobierno ha comenzado a financiar proyectos para reforzar los edificios contra los movimientos tel\u00faricos.<\/p>\n

El \u00faltimo gran terremoto que sacudi\u00f3 la regi\u00f3n fue en 1927. El sismo de 6,2 grados en la escala de Richter provoc\u00f3 la muerte de 500 personas y heridas a otras 700.
