Um soldado irland\u00eas que integrava a For\u00e7a Interina das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas para o L\u00edbano, UNIFIL na sigla em ingl\u00eas, foi morto na semana passada na aldeia de Al-Aqbieh, no sul do L\u00edbano. A regi\u00e3o, \u00e9 controlada pelo grupo terrorista Hezbollah.<\/p>\n

O militar assassinado foi identificado como Sean Rooney de 24 anos e natural da cidade de Dundalk, no nordeste da Irlanda. Al\u00e9m de Sean, outros tr\u00eas soldados irlandeses ficaram feridos. Um deles, Shane Kearney, est\u00e1 em estado grave.<\/p>\n

De acordo com um comunicado expedido na \u00faltima quinta-feira (15) pela UNIFIL, o cabo Sean Rooney for morto e seus colegas ficaram feridos quando o comboio de ve\u00edculos blindados das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas foi atacado a caminho de Beirute, capital do L\u00edbano.<\/p>\n

De acordo com a investiga\u00e7\u00e3o preliminar o militar morto, Sean Rooney, dirigia um dos blindados e foi atingido na cabe\u00e7a por uma bala que perfurou a blindagem do ve\u00edculo. Este, segundo testemunhas, teria atingido uma barreira e capotado logo em seguida.<\/p>\n

Feridos, os militares irlandeses das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas foram levados para um hospital na cidade de Sidon. L\u00e1, Sean Rooney foi declarado morto e seu colega, Shane Kearney, submetido a uma cirurgia de emerg\u00eancia. Os outros dois militares tamb\u00e9m foram atendidos e felizmente sofreram apenas ferimentos leves.<\/p>\n

O Primeiro-ministro da Irlanda, Micheal Martin, disse estar \u201cprofundamente chocado e muito triste\u201d pela morte do soldado Sean Rooney. Ele desejou a pronta recupera\u00e7\u00e3o de Shane Kearney e dos demais militares irlandeses feridos.<\/p>\n

O Porta-voz da UNIFIL, Andre Tenenti, classificou o ataque ao comboio das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas como \u201cum incidente muito s\u00e9rio\u201d. Ele disse que exigiu que as autoridades libanesas cooperem com as investiga\u00e7\u00f5es para que os respons\u00e1veis pela morte do soldado Sean Rooney sejam levados \u00e0 justi\u00e7a.<\/p>\n

\u201cEste \u00e9 um crime contra a comunidade internacional, contra os agentes pacificadores das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas que est\u00e3o aqui para preservar a estabilidade\u201d, disse ele.<\/p>\n

O grupo terrorista Hezbollah, apesar de controlar com bra\u00e7o de ferro toda a regi\u00e3o sul do L\u00edbano, disse n\u00e3o estar envolvido no ataque ao comboio das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas que matou o soldado irland\u00eas Sean Rooney.<\/p>\n
