As Iranian rockets targeted Ramat Gan, devastating buildings in their path, rescue workers and families experienced a moment of joy and relief as a baby and a four-year-old boy were pulled out of the wreckage.
Early on Thursday, Iranian missiles rained down on Israel with direct hits on Soroka Hospital in Beer Sheva, injuring 40, Holon and Ramat Gan.
In Ramat Gan, 29 people were injured and taken to hospitals.
Superintendent Eli Tubul and 24 first responders approached a 26-story building that had been struck and partially collapsed and began to rescue anyone they could find.
Tubul told Ynet, “We couldn’t gain access. There were no working elevators.”
“A resident led us to the parking lot, and from there, we began the climb. We rescued dozens with our bare hands,” he continued.
Tubul carefully pulled a baby out of the rubble climbed down, and gave him to a Border Guard while he returned to bring down the terrified 4-year-old boy.
He said, “He reminded me of my own son. I calmed him, and we made it out together. This is why we do what we do—to save lives.”
In another building in Ramat Gan, an infant girl was pulled out of the wreckage and survived.
Snir Pdaida from the Israel Police told Israel Hayom, “We were tasked with clearing the neighboring building. Equipped with breaching tools and medical kits, our two teams went door-to-door, rescuing four infants held by their families, two elderly individuals unable to walk, and even frightened pets reunited with their owners.”
