A 20-year-old Israeli resident of the Galilee has been indicted on terrorism-related charges after allegedly pledging allegiance to the Islamic State and planning an attack against IDF soldiers, authorities said Thursday.

The suspect, identified as Muhammad Abd al-Ghani from the village of Nahf, was arrested in recent weeks in a joint operation by the Shin Bet and the Northern District police’s major crimes unit.

According to the investigation, Abd al-Ghani swore allegiance to ISIS several months ago and later attempted to obtain a handgun. He is suspected of planning to carry out an attack targeting IDF soldiers in the city of Karmiel.

During his arrest, security forces reportedly found posters and symbols associated with ISIS in his room, further indicating his affiliation with the terrorist organization.

Prosecutors filed an indictment against him at the Nazareth District Court and requested that he remain in custody until the end of legal proceedings.

The Shin Bet and Israel Police said the case reflects a broader concern over individuals within Israel seeking to carry out attacks inspired by global terror organizations, adding that security forces will continue to act decisively to thwart such threats.
