Violent demonstrations in Mexico City over the past weekend took a darkly antisemitic turn as protesters targeted the Supreme Court and its Jewish president, Claudia Sheinbaum.

Graffiti scrawled on the court’s main entrance included antisemitic slogans and a Star of David marked with a large red X. Other images from the rally showed a demonstrator wearing a swastika-emblazoned T-shirt and a ski mask. Protesters carried stones, chains, and fireworks, attacking police officers during the unrest.

The protests came amid rising crime rates across the country and followed a series of killings reportedly targeting opponents of President Sheinbaum. The clashes left approximately 120 people injured, including around 100 law enforcement personnel.

Despite the overtly antisemitic imagery, Mexican authorities have not yet addressed the issue. Israeli officials, however, issued immediate condemnation.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar denounced the attacks on X, stating: “There is no place for such attacks in political discourse. All forms of antisemitism, in any context, must be rejected unequivocally.”

The antisemitic violence in Mexico City is part of a growing pattern of attacks against Jewish communities worldwide. From protests to online harassment, Jews continue to face threats and intimidation, showing the urgent need for governments and societies to confront and reject hatred in all its forms.
