ACT NOW: Pass the Bill That Protects Synagogues from Threats

Across New York, Jewish worshippers are being harassed and blocked from entering synagogues — and now, a new bill could finally stop it.

The Protecting Access Without Threat of Interference Act (S.8599 / A.9335) would make it illegal to threaten, obstruct, or intimidate anyone trying to enter a synagogue or other religious building.

It also creates a 25-foot safety zone around entrances — giving Jewish New Yorkers and other faith communities space to gather, pray, and walk in peace.

This bill is urgent. Protesters are blocking doors, filming families, and screaming slurs at Jews who just want to go to shul.

This legislation doesn’t silence speech. It protects access — the right to worship without harassment, and to walk through synagogue doors without being surrounded or shoved. That’s a right too many Jewish New Yorkers are losing.

The bill also cracks down on repeat offenders, allowing felony charges when lines are crossed again and again.
