The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is under intense pressure as Iceland’s national broadcaster, RÚV, has launched a blatant political campaign to censor Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Stefán Jón Hafstein, Chairman of RÚV’s Board, has demanded that Israel perform under a “neutral” flag—stripping the Star of David and all national identity—while no such demands are made of any other nation.
Let’s be clear: this is not a “middle ground.” It’s an unmistakable act of discrimination.
To compare Israel—a democracy defending itself from terrorism—to the sanctioned athletes of Russia and Belarus is a grotesque distortion. Israel has broken no Eurovision rules.
Yet Iceland seeks to undermine the very principles Eurovision claims to uphold: unity, inclusion, and respect.
Eurovision must not allow its stage to be weaponized against the Jewish state.
Acquiescing to Iceland’s demands would mark a dangerous precedent, enabling antisemitism cloaked in political correctness.
It would not only isolate Israel but also betray Eurovision’s core mission—to unite people through music, not divide them through hate.
We must not stay silent while a cultural celebration becomes a platform for targeting the Jewish state.
The EBU must affirm that Israel has the same right as every other nation to proudly display its flag, identity, and culture.
Iceland’s hateful maneuver must be rejected.
